Stephen and Niki flew all the way from the UK to celebrate their wedding day in South Africa. Along with all their family members, they invited us and our two little boys to their holiday home in the Kruger. This was our first of two destination weddings in September. Not only did this amazing family invite us to bring our children along, but so did our second destination wedding couple! Everything happens for a reason and being blessed in such a huge way by both couples, happened for a very good reason. Up until we left for the Weston wedding, our four year old little boy found himself in the pediatric ward of a hospital. He took a bad fall at school and injured his spine. God bless his adventurous little heart (and my nerves). He is such an active boy. He obviously didn’t feel great on this wedding weekend but this family showed him nothing but love! Thank you to all of you. Thank you for the lovely time we got to spend with you as a family… being treated like family. Wow! That is all we can say. I remember when both couples informed us that they want us to bring our children with, all I could say to my husband and assistant at weddings was “Who does that? Seriously… it is just amazing!”
So imagine you spend your wedding day in the company of a lioness that checks out Water buck only about a 100 meters from you just said your vows. Imagine spending it in the company of elephant, hippo and a placid crocodile that checks you out while you stand 5 meters from him. Imagine doing your couple shoot and your photographer realizes that the most beautiful rhino bull is watching you from less than a 100 meters away. Okay so this couple is from the UK… That makes it 0.06 miles. Less than that, actually 🙂
He watched us and when he realized that we were done and that we were not a threat, he calmly walked off, behind our game vehicle. I had a moment with this handsome guy. He stopped and looked me straight in the eye when we started to drive off slowly. My heart – forever changed. It is a moment that’s been etched into my heart forever!
This was no ordinary wedding: Guests were treated to a couple of days in the Kruger. The celebrations started a couple of days prior to the wedding day. On the day of the wedding, some of the most amazing caterers I have ever come across at a wedding, treated us to a delightful breakfast after the early morning ceremony. Then came a game drive for each and every single guest. After the game drive, we stopped to appreciate mentioned placid crocodile and some hippo while enjoying some snacks. On our return to the house, delicious dinner was served! The rest of the evening was spent in a chilled atmosphere with some dancing, darts and just hanging out together. Memories made for us! I am sure memories was made for everybody there.
Due to the rhinos, I, self proclaimed Ace Venture, will not elaborate on the location of this wedding. I will just say that it really is a bit of paradise, right here on earth.
Niki’s mom, Debbie, made this day happen and it happened perfectly. As our very emotional groom kept on saying, throughout the day: “We couldn’t have imagined it any more perfect or any better.”
All you UK folk, gosh, we loved spending this weekend with you. We hope you loved everything South Africa left you with. And we hope that you will remember the country and its people fondly <3
